Yeah, the lack of good character growth is more of an against for me, though I do agree with your point - I think Akame ga Kill has the foundations of a really interesting series, but it doesn't care to get as serious with the material that it has in the same way that something like Hunter x Hunter does, which is a bit annoying since the potential is certainly there.
